Movie: Thomas teardown

Thomas teardown from Corn Maze on Vimeo.

Felix is crazy about Thomas the Tank Engine and all his many friends. He has been the lucky recipient of both a new set (Mama) and a huge collection of eBay'd tracks (Grandpa) which he uses to reenact the many scenarios he has studied, often with surprising fidelity to the original. But he cannot build: for that he needs a helpful parent. He recognizes that this is a favor he is asking, he understands, too, that it is ingratitude of the highest order to then destroy what we have built, but ultimately heart rules head, and somewhere in his little heart there lurks an evil urge....

This video reminds me of "Punishing Felix" in which Felix clearly demonstrated his calm resistance to certain rules. For the most part he respects them, but sometimes upon consideration he decides he must reject a particular directive--don't play with food, don't destroy the train system--adopting the classic corporate defense of accepting punishment without acknowledging wrong-doing.

Movie: Does Felix still speak Dutch?

We read Jip and Janneke every night (and sometimes before nap, too), and he jumped when he heard a couple speaking Dutch on the street the other day. He speaks every once in a while about wanting to go to Amsterdam (which he sometimes pronounces in the Dutch manner). But he almost never speaks even as much Dutch as this. I admit, I find it a bit sad, since this is hardly any at all.

Movie: The Fast and the Cute

There's one long stretch of smooth sidewalk, unbroken by unpredictable driveways, on the way to school. Felix usually (well, we've only been doing this walk for a week, but he's quick to establish patterns) takes this chance to drag race passing traffic, and he doesn't do too bad at that (car shown in this video was obviously sporting an illegal nitrous injector).
